Since I live close to both my parents and my in-laws, I have never had to cook my own turkey for Thanksgiving.
To be honest, I am a little bit intimidated of trying to cook a huge turkey.
Remember that scene on Christmas Vacation when the entire family is sitting down to a beautiful turkey dinner with all the fixings and the grand moment of cutting open the turkey happens; only to have the turkey split open, completely dry, burned, and disgusting!
The family basically gets to eat turkey jerky for dinner. Oh, how I love this movie.
Anyway, whenever I make turkey dinner for my family, I always just make it in my slow cooker. It turns out moist and juicy every time. I promise, you can’t go wrong with this recipe.
Of course, you can’t fit a huge ol’ bird in a 6-quart slow cooker, so keep that in mind. I ended up purchasing an 8 pound turkey breast which fit perfectly in my slow cooker.
It also came out so juicy and tender. Way better than cooking an entire bird. You will go crazy for this one.
How can I cook this turkey breast quicker?
- If you don’t have 8 hours to cook this turkey breast, don’t stress. You can cook this turkey in a slow cooker on high, or also in the oven.
- If you are wanting to speed up the cook time on the slow cooker, you can turn the heat to high, and cook it for four hours. I do this all the time, and the meat is still extremely juicy and delicious.
- You can also cook this in the oven. Prepare it as you would, but place it in a glass baking pan. My turkey breast fit great in a 9×9 inch pan, but you may need a 9×13 inch pan. Cook the Turkey breast for 1 hour at 375 degrees F.
- Before letting it cool, slice into it, to make sure it is done cooking, or check with a food thermometer and make sure it reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees.
how many people will a turkey breast feed?
This depends solely on the size and weight of the turkey breast.
One 3 pound turkey breast will feed two to four people. A whole six to seven pound breast (two breasts), will feed six to eight people.
You can use this method of meat measuring for any meat, not just turkey. These are also very good portion sizes.
So if you have a few more guests, all you need is some extra side dishes to fill them up.
