Since I live close to both my parents and my in-laws, I have never had to cook my own turkey for Thanksgiving.
To be honest, I am a little bit intimidated of trying to cook a huge turkey.
Remember that scene on Christmas Vacation when the entire family is sitting down to a beautiful turkey dinner with all the fixings and the grand moment of cutting open the turkey happens . . .
Only to have the turkey split open, completely dry, burned, and disgusting! The family basically gets to eat turkey jerky for dinner (ha ha!). (Oh, how I love this movie!!!)
Anyway, whenever I make turkey dinner for my family, I always just make it in my slow cooker. It turns out moist and juicy every time . . . you can’t go wrong with this recipe!
Of course, you can’t fit a huge ol’ bird in a 6-quart slow cooker, so keep that in mind. 🙂 I ended up purchasing an 8 pound turkey breast which fit perfectly in my slow cooker.
