We are so excited to announce that we are featured in the December/January issue of Simple & Delicious Magazine.

We’ve been working on it for quite a while, but we can finally let the cat out of the bag.

We are sharing our very favorite no-fuss, big taste slow-cooker recipes that will help keep you from going through the drive through this holiday season and make healthier choices in the new year.

We’ve got 10+ easy recipes AND tips to get the best results using your slow cooker (plus a little bit more about us!).

You can see the whole spread with ALL of our recipes on the Taste of Home site HERE.

Simple & Delicious is a magazine made specifically for busy mom’s (that’s why we love it.) It is also available in print by subscription only, plus on lots of digital platforms, too (like iPad, Kindle, and Nook).

Today, we’re highlighting our favorite recipe from the spread:
Country Style Ribs

how to make Country Style ribs

Step 1: In a medium sized mixing bowl, stir together the ketchup, brown sugar, vinegar, Old Bay seasoning, and the liquid smoke.

I used a whisk to do this, but you could also use a wooden spoon, or any stirring utensil.

Step 2: Place the ribs in the bottom of your slow cooker. Be sure to spray your slow cooker with non-stick cooking spray before placing your ribs in.

I also prefer using a slow cooker liner. You simply put it in your slow cooker (it’s like a sturdy and heat durable, plastic bag) and remove you throw it away after your meal is done cooking.

No scrubbing your slow cooker. That’s all there is to it.

Step 3: Pour the sauce mixture over the ribs.

Step 4: Cook on low for six hours until ribs are tender. If you are in a hurry, you could also cook it on high for 3-4 hours.

We prefer cooking it low and slow because the meat is a little more tender and juicy.

tips and tricks

Freezer Bags
We prefer using freezer bags, because it’s just one less dish you have to deal with.

You could also marinate your ribs in a bowl, or air tight container, but again, I hate dealing with raw meat juice so I prefer a bag that I can throw away.

3-qt Slow Cooker
I love using my 3 quart slow cooker. You could of course go bigger or smaller, but it is perfect for my family of four.

Make this into a freezer meal.
This recipe could easily be made into a freezer meal. It is so easy to add all the ingredients into your plastic bag, then place it in the freezer until ready to use.

When you are ready, simply cut the plastic bag, place the frozen rib mixture and it’s marinade into the slow cooker.

Cook on low for 6-7 hours, watching, to make sure they don’t overcook.

  1. Congratulations on the spread in Taste of Home, I will look for a copy at my grocery store. In regard to the ribs, is it necessary to freeze the ribs first before then thawing them and cooking in the slow cooker? Can they just be placed in the fridge to marinate for a period of time before cooking? Thank you.
  2. I just finished reading through your recipes in the Dec / Jan 2015 Taste of Home and have the same question as Tamara above. If you want to make the recipes right away, can you place the ingredients in the bag and marinate over night without the freezing step? I look forward to trying your recipes, they sound delicious and also appreciate the option to make ahead and freeze for another day. Great meals for College Students on the go too! Thank you
