Mini Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins Recipe

These Mini Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins are perfect for little hands (and mom and dad hands). They make a great breakfast, snack, or dessert.

My 4-year-old asks me to make banana bread everyday.  He literally cheers when we have bananas that are brown so we can make banana bread.

I thought I would make something a little more kid friendly with our overripe bananas, and he was thrilled.

These Mini Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins are perfect for tiny hands, and taste amazing. If you love banana bread (and chocolate) you are going to love these.

They are perfect for snacks, breakfast, dessert, or just whenever you have a little sweet tooth coming on. The kids will also love helping you make these.

could i make these in a standard muffin tin?

For this particular recipe, we made them in a mini muffin tin. My little kids love the mini ones, and they look like the pre packaged muffins at the store that my kids adore.

However, you could easily make this in a standard size muffin tin. You will probably only be able to get about 12 muffins using the normal size tin.

You could also add muffin liners if you desire, but I have found that when I just give the tin a little spray with non-stick cooking spray, that they slide right out with a knife.

do these freeze well?

These muffins freeze great. We will usually put them in individual sized snack bags, and squeeze all the air out, and take them out as needed. They will last nicely in your freezer for about 2 weeks.

These are also delicious when they are refrigerated. It keeps them a little more moist, and preserves them just a little longer.

They are also really yummy when they are a little bit cold.

what could i put in them instead of chocolate chips?

I love chocolate with my banana bread, but if you are looking to switch it up, here are a few recommendations:

  • Mini M & M’s
  • Coconut Shreds
  • Walnuts
  • Pecans
  • Cinnamon Chips
  • Butterscotch Chips
  • Peanut Butter Chips

  1. I only had 2 bananas and thus made a half batch (24 muffins). They were quick to mix up and turned out very well! I didn't have mini chocolate chips, so I just chopped up some regular sized chocolate chips. I echo the other comments about the amount of chocolate chips. I usually love more chocolate, and it was delicious, but I felt that the amount of chocolate was overpowering the yummy taste of the banana. I will definitely make this again, but perhaps lessen the amount of chocolate. My kids love them though! Thank you!
  2. This has become my go to muffin recipe. Tonight I divide the batch. Half I made banana no chocolate chips and half pumpkin. I subbed 1 cup of pumpkin for the the 2 bananas (half recipe), No lemon juice, added 1 teaspoon of vanilla and 1 teaspoon pumpkin spice. They were awesome!
  3. Love this recipe ,, I just took them out of the oven and my 4 year old has already snacked on 3 of them. I suggest you change the serves number from 12 to 48 . I made 24 mini muffins and 12 standard sized muffins. Will definitely be making these muffins again. Thanks !!

I made these muffins for the first time last week. I didn't have a mini muffin tin so made them regular sized and with regular sized chocolate chips. They were incredible and my hubby said they are his favorite muffins ever. I made them a second time this weekend :)
  5. I made these for my Dayhome kids and they asked for me to make them again tomorrow? So delicious! I followed exact measurements and it made exactly 48 mini muffins. I used 3 bananas and 1 whole bag of mini chocolate chips. ***There can never be TOO much chocolate?

This recipe turned out great EXCEPT I think if you are going to keep the 2 cups of mini chocolate chips in your recipe that you should advertise it/rename it to "VERY chocolate-y mini banana chocolate chip muffins". I followed the recipe and used 2 cups without thinking, and it came out to be way too much chocolate in a mini muffin for most people's tastes. Your pictures look fine, but they just show the outside of the muffins; when I bite into/cut open one of those muffins, it is very apparent how there are too many chocolate chips on the inside. A bit misleading. Wish I would've paid more attention to the comments before adding the chocolate chips.
