Grandma’s Warm Spiced Cider Recipe

One of my favorite memories from growing up is heading over to our grandma’s house for Christmas dinner. Her house seriously smelled amazing!
On Christmas morning she would whip up a pot of this spiced cider and let it simmer all day long. I loved being in her kitchen and sampling all her amazing food- she is an incredible cook!

I recently made a huge pot of this for my family and my dad happened to stop by- as soon as he walked in, he knew that his mom’s cider was simmering on the stove. I love how something as simple as a smell can bring back so many happy memories!

So, if you are like me and are just trying to endure the cold winter, whip up a batch of this warm cider. I promise that it will instantly put you in a good mood.

Grandma's Warm Spiced Cider Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon allspice
  • 1 teaspoon whole cloves
  • 3 whole cinnamon sticks
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 gallon apple cider

Instructions

  1. Dump cider into a large stock pot. Place on the stove over low heat.
  2. Place salt, spices, and brown sugar on a square of clean cheesecloth (or any clean thin cotton fabric).  Pull up edges and tie with a string to form a bag. Place bag in the cider and simmer for at least 20 minutes (but you can let it simmer for a couple hours- that's what makes your house smell really good!).
  3. If you cook this in a crock pot, cook on low for about 2-3 hours, then keep warm.
  4. Refrigerate leftovers and reheat as needed.
