Our Grandma is well known for her Thumbprint Cookies. I used to look forward to our family Christmas party because I knew that her cookies would be there.
She always made them with red and green frosting but if you aren’t a frosting fan, you can fill them with your favorite jelly.
These cookies are one of the recipes out of our new Christmas Cookbook. It is such a fun book full of Christmas crafts, ideas, traditions, and of course, recipes.
They are all holiday favorites, that are so simple to make, and create fun traditions the whole family will love.
what is the best homemade frosting recipe to use for these cookies?
I am all about shortcuts, so I am all about canned frosting, then adding a little food coloring to it.
However, if you would like to make your own frosting for this recipe, I highly recommend trying our Buttercream Frosting Recipe. It is so easy to make and is so festive when you add food coloring.
I always add about 3-4 drops of red food coloring in half the frosting batch, and 3-4 green drops in the other half.
Again, this recipe is very delicious with jelly. I love using raspberry jelly, or strawberry jelly for these cookies.
how to separate an egg white from an egg yolk:
This can be a little tricky, but once you get the hang of it, it will be a breeze. Here is how you do it:
Step 1: Crack your egg in the center, while holding the two elongated sides of the egg.
Step 2: Don’t let the egg crack in the bowl, you want to just crack the shell. Then place the cracked egg over one of your clean hands. With the other clean hand, pry open the two egg sides.
Step 3: Catch the egg in your hand, and let the egg whites slip between your fingers, and go into the bowl.
Step 4: Place the egg yolk, in a separate bowl.
This may take a practice egg or two, but once you get a hold of it, it becomes really easy, and quick.
