Edible Cookie Dough

The perfect late-night craving, delivered. Our edible cookie dough can be eaten safely, and you can make it your own by adding your favorite mix-ins!

If I could only eat one dessert for the rest of my life, it would be cookies. And even more specifically, just the DOUGH.

With this edible cookie dough, you can enjoy the taste safely – it has no eggs, and the flour is toasted so you can eat your dough in peace, with no one telling you NO. 😉

I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t snuck some dough here and there in my life, but being pregnant and craving cookie dough, I figured I should be a little bit safer.

This cookie dough was inspired by my trip to New York and a little place called . My husband and I stood in line for 45 minutes just to get a taste – but it was totally worth it. Now I don’t live anywhere near a Dō, and their cookbook won’t be released for a few more months, so until then, I’ll be making my own edible cookie dough creations at home.

How to make edible cookie dough

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Place flour on a foil-lined baking sheet. Bake for 5 minutes. Then remove from the oven and set aside. (Don’t skip this step! Yes, it’s annoying, but it will kill any bacteria in the raw flour).
  3. While the flour is toasting, mix together sugars, butter, vanilla and salt.
  4. Mix the toasted flour into the sugar mixture, then add 1-2 Tablespoons of milk to reach your desired cookie dough consistency.
  5. Mix in your favorite additions. (You can see some of our favorite mix-ins listed below).

Mix-ins

has a whole menu of delicious inspiration, but here are some of our favorite mix-ins:

  • Oatmeal, chocolate chips, and M&Ms
  • White chocolate chips, sprinkles, and mini chocolate chips
  • Marshmallows (or marshmallow creme), chocolate chunks, and graham cracker pieces

Is edible cookie dough safe to eat?

This is one of the safest types of cookie dough you can eat for two reasons:

  1. The flour has been toasted, killing any potential bacteria that can be in raw flour.
  2. There are NO EGGS, so you don’t run the risk of getting a food borne illness that way, either.

Can I bake this cookie dough?

Unfortunately, no. There are no rising agents in most edible cookie doughs, so it won’t work to bake. If you’re looking for a good cookie recipe, we’d recommend this Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe or our White Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies.

You can store this cookie dough in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.

It can be stored in the freezer for up to 60 days.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour*
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter (softened)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1-2 Tablespoons milk
  • 3/4 cup mix-ins (chocolate chips, M&Ms, oatmeal, sprinkles, etc.)

Notes

*we do not recommend skipping this step. There is a potential risk of foodborne illness from consuming raw flour, so we toast it to decrease that risk.
