Easy Ambrosia Fruit Salad

The quickest creamiest side dish! Ambrosia Fruit Salad is a mix of your favorite fruit folded into creamy vanilla yogurt for a side dish that goes with just about any meal.

Right before I got married, my extended family threw me a “Stuff The Pantry” bridal shower. Everyone was supposed to bring their favorite recipe and then the ingredients needed to make that recipe so that I could stock my pantry with lots of ideas to feed my husband.

All the older women in the family kept telling me that the way to my husband’s heart was through food . . . and that seriously terrified me because I lived on cereal, sandwiches, and crackers! My husband was going to run away when he found out that I didn’t even know how to brown hamburger.

My cute grandma wrote me a little note about how it takes a lot of practice to learn your way around the kitchen but this recipe is a great place to start; she then included the following recipe for this simple ambrosia salad.

I still have the recipe card with her teeny-tiny perfect handwriting and it will forever be a treasure to me. And she is exactly right- it doesn’t get much simpler than this little recipe.

How make an easy ambrosia fruit salad

The best thing about this Ambrosia Fruit Salad is that pretty much anything goes! Here’s what we like to put in ours:

  • Fruit cocktail
  • Pineapple tidbits
  • Vanilla yogurt
  • Shredded coconut
  • Miniature marshmallows

Here are a few other optional ingredients we’ve mixed in!

  • Red grapes
  • Green grapes
  • Mandarin oranges
  • Apples
  • Bananas

To make your salad, just follow a few simple steps!

Step 1 – Toss your fruit together in a large mixing bowl. Make sure to drain the juice out of any canned fruit you are using to avoid your salad from getting too runny.

Step 2 – Gently fold in your vanilla yogurt. You can use Greek yogurt if you want to add some additional protein, but vanilla yogurt is the creamiest option.

Step 3 – Store your salad in an airtight container until you’re ready to eat it. This will store in the fridge for 2-3 days after you’ve made it. The juices from the salad will settle on the bottom, so just make sure to give it a good stir before you serve it again.

  • 1 (14 ounce) can fruit cocktail (drained)
  • 1 (20 ounce) can pineapple tidbits (drained)
  • 2 (6 ounce) containers vanilla yogurt
  • 1/2 cup shredded sweetened coconut
  • 1 cup miniature marshmallows
  • Other fruit that you can add:
  • 1 cup green grapes
  • 1 cup red grapes
  • 1 apple (diced)
  • 1 banana (sliced)
  • 1 (10.5 ounce) can mandarin oranges (drained)


  1. Mix all ingredients together in a large bowl. Chill until served.


*I usually like to make this about 30 minutes before we eat. I feel like the marshmallows tend to get really mushy if I do it much more before then (however- some people like the marshmallows that way).
