Chunky Monkey Brownies Recipe

Chunky, fudgy, chocolaty, and full of banana goodness, is what you will get with these completely delicious chunky monkey brownies!

Do you buy bananas with the intention of eating good, or even making some delicious smoothies, and then life happens? Yeah me too. Unfortunately, that means too many tasty bananas end up in the trash. 

Well, with this easy and delicious chocolate brownie recipe, you can use those bananas instead of throwing them away and get a tasty treat! Plus, when I add fruit into my dessert I always feel a little healthier. Hahaha. 

Also, if I add in bananas or any other fruit to a dessert at least then they are getting some fruit in! Sometimes I have to pick my battles and I consider it a win with these fantastic brownies with bananas. (Most of the time they don’t even know they are eating fruit when I do it.)

  1. Unsalted butter 
  2. Eggs
  3. Brown sugar 
  4. White granulated sugar
  5. Salt
  6. Vanilla extract
  7. Flour

  9. Banana 
  10. Chocolate chips


Sometimes when I am baking with bananas, I often wonder if there is a better way to mash a banana without getting super messy and losing some of the banana. So, I finally did some searching on Google and this article, a better way to mash bananas came up and had some great ideas to make mashing bananas easier!

  • 9 x 13 inch baking pan (I love that THIS one it comes with a lid perfect storing brownies)
  • Nonstick cooking spray
  • Mixing bowl
  • Hand mixer (I like that THIS one can hold all the attachments)
  • Rubber spatula

How to make our downright delicious chocolate brownie recipe:

To start making these chunky monkey brownies, preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

Next, take your 9 x 13 inch baking pan and spray it well with your nonstick cooking spray and then set it aside for later. 

Then, using a mixing bowl, add in your softened butter, eggs, brown sugar, granulated sugar, salt, and vanilla extract. Use your hand mixer or stand mixer and blend everything together until it is all well combined. 

Once it’s mixed together well, add in the flour, baking soda, mashed banana, and 2 cups of chocolate chips to the sugar batter. 

Mix everything together with the hand blender until completely combined. 

Now, grab your greased 9×13 baking pan and spread the batter into the bottom of the pan as evenly as possible.


Once that is done, sprinkle the remaining ½ cup of chocolate chips evenly over top of the chunky monkey brownie batter.


Now that the batter is set and ready, put it in the oven and bake it for THIS AMOUNT OF MINUTES or until the brownies look golden and an inserted toothpick comes out clean. 

After the brownies have reached your desired doneness, remove them from the oven and let them cool. 

When the brownies have cooled down, cut them into bars, and enjoy!

  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened to room temp)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup mashed banana
  • 2 1/2 cups chocolate chips (divided)


  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  2. Spray a 9 x 13 inch glass pan with non-stick cooking spray. Set aside.
  3. Combine butter, eggs, brown sugar, sugar, salt, and vanilla until well blended.
  4. Add in flour, baking soda, mashed banana, and 2 cups of chocolate chips.
  5. Spread batter evenly into the prepared pan.
  6. Sprinkle 1/2 cup chocolate chips over the top of batter.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown and toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  8. Cool completely and cut into bars.
