Chocolate Buttercream Frosting

This Chocolate Buttercream Frosting is so easy to make, and is just the right combination of rich and creamy. It's not overpowering, but it is quite rich and filling. It spreads and pipes onto all your desserts, nicely.

I have tried SO many different kinds of chocolate frosting, so I decided to combine a few of my favorites to make this one.  It turned out really good and was thick enough to use to decorate/frost cupcakes.
It is so simple to make and it tastes absolutely delicious. It’s so creamy, and spreads or pipes onto cakes, cookies, cupcakes, and desserts, easily.
You are going to love this flavor of frosting. It’s rich, but not too chocolatey, that you get a tummy ache. This truly is the BEST chocolate buttercream frosting I have ever made or tasted.

what we mean by softened butter:

This recipe calls for softened butter, which is exactly what we mean. We do not mean partially melted, or butter that is cold.

This recipe will only work with softened butter. By softened butter, we mean room temperature butter. This is definitely a frosting recipe you will want to prepare ahead of time because you will want to soften your butter, and set it out, to allow it to thaw and get soft, to room temperature.

You could use margarin for this recipe, but we have found that it works best when you use butter.

We do not recommend softening the butter, by melting it in the microwave. This will create melted butter (even the slightest bit of liquid butter, will effect your frosting).

If you have any liquid butter, or melted butter, your frosting will be extremely runny, and you will have to add more powdered sugar or cocoa, which will greatly effect the texture and flavor.

I usually set my butter out over night, then prepare the frosting in the morning, when the butter is at room temperature.
