Cheesy Bacon Tots with Secret Dipping Sauce

I love a good bacon appetizer, and I have to say, these are definitely the best. You have to try these Cheesy Bacon Tots, and their Secret Dipping Sauce. The sauce really is the cherry on top, for this recipe. You'll love it.

This is the perfect appetizer to ring in the New Year. We gobbled these delicious bacon wrapped tater tots in no time at all.

And the secret dipping sauce takes these tots over the top.  It’s very similar to the dipping sauce for Outback’s Blooming Onion.  You are going to absolutely love this.

My husband always requests this recipe for game day. We even had them as part of our dinner the other night.

The sauce is a little smoky and subtle tasting, but it pair perfectly with these Cheesy Bacon Tots. You are going to love how easy and delicious this treat is.

could i make these ahead of time?

You could definitely make this recipe ahead of time. However, we think this recipe would be best made ahead of time, if nothing was cooked.

We recommend making them as instructed, but before cooking them, place them in the fridge or freezer. If you are making them a few hours in advance, we recommend refrigerating them.

If you plan to make them two days in advance, we recommend freezing them, then thawing them 24 hours before baking, then bake right before you plan to serve them.

We don’t recommend freezing them for more than 3-2 days.

what could i dip these in?

I love how versatile this recipe is, because you could dip them in a lot of different things. Here are a few of our favorite:

Queso Dip: I love dipping these in a little extra cheese.

Marinara or Alfredo Dip: This may seem strange, but you just have to try it. The flavor combination is amazing.

Fry Sauce: Fry sauce is sort of a Utah thing. All it is, is a combination of mayo and ketchup, equal parts. It is delicious.

Cheesy Bacon Tots with Secret Dipping Sauce

These tots make the perfect appetizer for any party! So easy to make!

Ingredients

  • 3 cups tater tots, thaw to room temperature
  • 4 ounces cheddar cheese, cut into small 1/4 inch cubes
  • 16 ounces bacon
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon chili powder
  • Sauce
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon horseradish
  • 1/3 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon oregano
  • pinch of black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon Franks Hot Sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  2. Cut tater tot in half lengthwise and place cheese cube inside. Piece back together and wrap with a piece of bacon. (Cut each bacon strip into thirds) This will keep it together.
  3. Combine the brown sugar and chili powder in a bowl. Then wrap each bacon wrapped tot in the brown sugar mixture. Place on a cookie sheet seam side down. Just keep making them until you run out of bacon.
  4. After rolling all the tots bake for 20 minutes. Halfway through cooking time turn them over and finish cooking until the bacon is crispy.
  5. Sauce:
  6. Mix all the sauce ingredients together. Keep in refrigerator until ready to serve.
