Bunny Bottom Cookies Recipe

These Bunny Bottom Cookies are simple, fun and delicious. They are the perfect Easter treat, that your whole family will love, and the kids will love making.

We are so excited for spring and we love celebrating Easter with our family. We made these cute Bunny Bottom cookies using our soft sugar cookie recipe with butter cream frosting.

No special cookie cutter needed.  We just used a round glass and an oval lid we found in the house.  Your kids will love these adorable Bunny Bottom cookies.

They are fun to frost, decorate, and of course sample (especially the dough. Yes, I encourage dough eating).

These are perfect for Easter parties or get togethers with friends and family. They also make a fun treat for neighbors or teachers.

what could i make to use the oval or cirlce shaped cookie?

I couldn’t find my circle or oval shaped cookie cutter anywhere. I spent way too much time looking, when I could have just got to work, and used something I had on hand.

If you don’t have a circle or oval shaped cookie cutter, don’t stress. You could easily use something you have on hand. Here are a few ideas:

  • Sharp Edged Cup
  • Can Lid (from a mason jar or container)
  • Smaller Round Container or Dipping Bowl
  • Draw Out Circles With a Knife
  • Empty and Clean Can of Food

what else could I use for the feet?

For this recipe, we made the bunny bottoms and the feet out of sugar cookies. However, you could easily make the feet with something else. Here are a few ideas:

  • Marshmallows (for roasting) Cut In Half
  • White Frosting (you don’t even need to put it on anything, just draw the feet right on the cookie)

  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 4 cups flour
  • Buttercream frosting
  • 1/2 cup margarine or butter,half melted
  • 3 tablespoons shortening

  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • red or pink food coloring.
  • Bunny Toppings
  • 26 mini marshmallows
  • 52 pink M&M's
  • 156 pink sixlets

Instructions

  1. Mix margarine, eggs, and sugar until well blended. Add baking powder, baking soda, vanilla, salt, and sour cream and stir well. Add flour and combine until well blended. Chill dough for about 30 minutes. Roll out on a floured surface and cut 26 circles with a round glass that is about 2 3/4 inches in diameter, and cut 52 bunny paws using an oval lid that is about 1 3/4 in x 1 1/4 in. Bake in 350 degree oven for about 9 minutes. You do not want to overcook them.
  2. After the cookies are completely cooled, make the frosting by mixing the margarine, shortening, vanilla, powdered sugar and milk. Color 1/2 of the frosting pink and leave the remaining frosting the original white color.
  3. Frost the round cookie pink and frost the paws white. Push the paws onto the cookie bottom. Add the marshmallow for the bunny tail. Add sixlets and m&m's for the paw pads.
