I am always craving Chinese food. No matter what time of day it is, I will always be in the mood for Chinese.
But it’s not always the healthiest choice. However, this Ground Turkey, Bean, and Mushroom Stir Fry is a healthy Chinese food that tastes better than any Chinese restaurant.
It’s easy to make, hardly takes any time, and you probably already have most the ingredients.
could I make this with ground beef?
This recipe, could most definitely be made with ground beef. I usually prefer the taste of ground beef, however, with this particular recipe, you may want to consider using ground turkey. I think it tastes a little better.
If you do choose to use ground beef in this recipe, you would cook the recipe the same way. I also recommend rinsing and draining your beef, because it usually has a little more fat and grease to it.
how do I brown ground turkey?
Browning ground turkey and ground beef are extremely similar, in fact, the exact same to me.
I am no professional chef, but here is how I brown ground turkey.
Heat stove to medium high heat. Place your meat in a non-stick skillet.
Using a metal spatula grind up the meat, by cutting it with the sharp edge. As you chop the ground turkey, be sure you are flipping and rotating it. This will keep the meat from staying in one place and burning.
Continue to chop, flip, and rotate the meat around the pan until your ground turkey is in little bits, as you prefer it to be, and there is no pink. The meat will be a lot lighter than ground beef.
Once it looks like your meat has been cooked through, I like to rinse and drain it, with water to get rid of any fatty grease.
I do this by placing the pan under Luke warm water, allowing the water to fill to almost the top of the pan (don’t let any of the turkey fall out).
Then I use the metal spatula, to hold the meat in the pan, as i slightly tilt it, to drain the water out. Tilt it very slowly to allow the water to slowly leak out, without losing any ground turkey.
You could also do this in a drainer, but I personally like having one less dish to wash or put away.
If you don’t get all the water out, that’s okay, you put it back on the heat to finish the recipe, and the water usually evaporates.
what could I use instead of green beans?
If you are not a green beans fan, don’t stress, there are plenty of alternatives you could use.
I personally like to steam broccoli with my turkey stir fry, but you could also use carrots, potatoes, zucchini, squash, asparagus, corn, or any of your favorite vegetables.
You could even add multiple vegetables to this recipe, and it would taste delicious.
could I use frozen vegetables?
You could most definitely use frozen vegetables.
If you use a microwavable frozen vegetable bag, we recommend either microwaving it, and adding it to the finished dish, or keeping it frozen, and letting it cook in the pan, with the other ingredients.
We don’t recommend microwaving it then adding it to the pan to cook with the other ingredients. The texture will be a little funny and your vegetables may get a little burned.
